Australia has some wonderful gardens many which were designed in the nineteenth century. During the colonial period, Australian garden designers often used European styles and imported European plants - This was thought to keep the home land in the minds of our new settlers.
This had to change and change it did in the 1970's. Aussies are a very home proud lot, so ecological garden planting started, using the indigenous flora of Australia. Australian garden designers made the start, by incorporating local culture and began to move forward with international styles of garden design.
