We have in Australia over 400 different species of the Eucalyptus tree - Eucalyptus Globulus. The tree is also known as the Australian Blue Gum, it is one of, if not the fastest growing evergreen trees that are native to Australia.
The wonderful Blue gum is the main source of global eucalyptus oil production and a source of food for our world famous tree hugging Koala. The Eucalyptus oil is produced from the dried leaves of the eucalyptus tree. The produce oil has no colour but does have a very distinctive sweet woody sent.
To extract the oil form the leaves they are steam distilled. The oil contains 70 to 85% 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol) - which is an ingredient found in a number of mouthwash products and dental preparations.
Eucalyptus oil has Multiple Uses
You will find eucalyptus oil is a key ingredient in perfumes and other cosmetics as it has that unique fresh and clean distinctive sweet woody aroma. The oil also has flavoring, pharmaceutical, and antiseptic uses.
In is well known that people around the world use eucalyptus oils oil to help treat a wide range of medical conditions, because it may have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
You will find eucalyptus oils are often used to help relieve some symptoms of the common cold and you will also find eucalyptus oils in a number of cough lozenges and inhalants. Arthritis and Rheumatism

Stuffed Nose, Sinus, Hay fever, Colds
As soon the first sign of discomfort appears , open a bottle of Eucalyptus oil sprinkle just a few drops of on a cloth or tissue and inhale via the nose, exhaling from the mouth.
Cold Sores
As soon as the first sign of a cold sore or discomfort, take a few drops of Eucalyptus oil apply to a cloth or towel then to affected area, covering lightly with a lubricant jell. Then repeat applying the oil a few times a day. In many cases you might find the Eucalyptus oil stops the cold sore before it breaks through the skin.
Rashes and Insect bites
Take a few drops of Eucalyptus oil and apply on affected area; spraying the area is more efficient, allow the area to dry. Then spray a second time and cover with a light lubricant jell.
Burns
Very simple with light burns - Immediately apply Eucalyptus oil directly to burn, let dry, apply again.
Sores, Cuts and Abrasions
Take a towel or cloth and a few drops of Eucalyptus oil and apply directly. Once bandaged, apply more of the Eucalyptus oil directly over the bandage to saturate.
Eucalyptus oil should cleanse wound, stop infection and promote healing.
Sore Feet
A footbath can be a wonderful thing for those with sore feet! Add a teaspoon teaspoon of Eucalyptus oil into a foot tub warm water, stick your feet in should give some relief to sore feet.
